Since 2002 JSB has been active on the European market and in the past ten years JSB positioned itself as a full knowledge partner in chromatography and mass spectrometry solutions. Analytical instruments can be purchased in different places, but solid advice tailored to the needs of your laboratory or process environment is not readily available. App note - Pyrolysis-GCxGC-QTOF about crude oils
By Dr. Daniela Peroni Crude oil consists of an extremely large amount of compounds covering a wide range of volatility and chemistry. This makes detailed composition characterization highly challenging. Pyrolysis coupled to comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry (py-GC×GC-HRMS) is a very powerful technique for the characterization of complex, heavy matrices such as crude oils. The two-dimensional resolution provides enhanced separation of the pyrolysis products, leading to improved classification for groups and individual analytes. Additionally, the 2D pyrograms make sample comparison easier and more informative. In addition, high resolution and accurate mass can deliver extra selectivity and identification power, especially for compounds with heteroatoms (e.g. N, S, O). In this work we show the benefits of coupling pyrolysis to GC×GC-MS with thermal modulation for the analysis of diverse polyethylene (PE) materials, a polymer commonly encountered in daily life in different forms.

Profiling of gin botanicals by Headspace-SPME Arrow-GCXGC-MS
GCxGC-MS is the ideal analytical technique to accommodate the complexity of samples, as in this case gins, due to its enhanced peak capacity and sensitivity. For quantitative purposes, and when using flow modulation, splitting to a FID is a logical choice. Sample preparation and sample introduction introduce further challenges due to the complex nature of the samples. Headspace-SPME Arrow is a fully automated sample preparation technique with the ability to extract targeted key compounds present a low concentrations whilst avoiding matrix compounds present at high concentrations. The combination of Hsspme arrow with GCxGC-MSD/FID is a very powerful tool in the comparative analysis of samples with complex matrices.

Analysing synthetic Cannabinoids with the new IRD3 We added the new IRD3 to our assortment which is ideal for detecting synthetic cannabinoids. In early 2011 the chemicals used to make synthetic marijuana were banned for at least one year by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The five synthetic cannabinoids included JWH-018, JWH-073, JWH-200, CP-47 and C8 homologue. Other state and federal agencies have banned one or more of these cannabinoids in the last year as well. The complexity and similarities of the chemical structures make identification of these compounds with GC-MS very challenging. CDS newest Pyrolyse Models JSB has recently added no less than 6 new pyroprobe models from CDS to the range. The renewed pyroprobe line has become even more accurate and user-friendly than before. By connecting a pyrolysis instrument to, for example, a GC or a GCMS, solids can be analyzed by gas chromatography. Think, for example, of Polymers research or rubbers. By adding autosamplers to the CDS package, there is even more flexibility within this package.
