New application note Our application specialist Daniela Peroni published a new application note: GCxGC with parallel MS and FID detection for improved analysis of fragrances. Gas chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) is broadly employed for the analysis of allergens and aroma compounds in fragrances. However, the analytical challenge is not trivial. The complexity of essential oils and perfumes typically requires multiple analyses with different stationary phases to achieve suitable resolution for all targets. Comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography (GC×GC) couples two columns in a single analysis to achieve superior separation power. Peaks are distributed across a 2D separation space based on different physicochemical properties, enhancing resolution and significantly reducing co-elution. These advantages make GC×GC-MS increasingly more widespread in the fragrance industry for accurate and time-effective targeted analysis as well as untergated profiling. Here we demonstrate

Wasson-ECE Instrumentation announced the new solution for Online Capillary Chromatography Wasson-ECE Instrumentation announced the new solution for Online Capillary Chromatography, the Eclipse Process Gas Chromatograph. The Eclipse design came out of decades of experience in laboratory and process analytics. The Eclipse process GC is Capable of handling complex and simple analyses. It has been challenging to implement a high-resolution capillary gas chromatography on-line due to the lack of availability of a highly accurate heated column oven. The state-of-the-art Eclipse process GC resolved this problem and can utilize up to two MicroConvection ovens for programmed temperature control of capillary columns; two isothermal ovens for packed columns, valving and detectors; one valve-inlet-detector (VID) oven for primary chromatographic valving, inlets and detectors; heated bridges for controlled sample transfer; and sample panel options for complex sample handling and multiplexing.

Profiling of gin botanicals by Headspace-SPME Arrow-GCXGC-MS
GCxGC-MS is the ideal analytical technique to accommodate the complexity of samples, as in this case gins, due to its enhanced peak capacity and sensitivity. For quantitative purposes, and when using flow modulation, splitting to a FID is a logical choice. Sample preparation and sample introduction introduce further challenges due to the complex nature of the samples. Headspace-SPME Arrow is a fully automated sample preparation technique with the ability to extract targeted key compounds present a low concentrations whilst avoiding matrix compounds present at high concentrations. The combination of Hsspme arrow with GCxGC-MSD/FID is a very powerful tool in the comparative analysis of samples with complex matrices.
