A new peristaltic pump for atomic spectroscopy
A new peristaltic pump for atomic spectroscopy
Since German scientists Robert Bunsen (*1811 - †1899) and Gustav Kirchhoff (*1824 - †1887) have discovered, that the color of a flame changed once an element was introduced, atomic spectroscopy has developed into one of the most successful analytical methods, which is applied every day worldwide and routinely. Among the different methods in atomic spectroscopy both multielement methods ICP-MS and ICP-OES have been extremely successful for the analysis of liquids. Both are based on the same inductively coupled plasma source, either used as an emission or an ion source for mass spectrometry. For transport of the liquid sample peristaltic pumps are well established to overcome any change in the composition leading to changes in viscosity thus reducing matrix effects. The working principle is based on compression and relaxation of a trapped liquid volume in an elastic tubing, which is fixed in the pumping head and pressed against a curved pressure plate. By rotation of the

For increased safety in the laboratory: The protect safety coated DURAN® glass laboratory bottles
For increased safety in the laboratory:
The protect safety coated DURAN® glass laboratory bottles When it comes to your personal safety or the protection of valuable or hazardous substances, the protect safety coated DURAN® laboratory bottles are the smart choice. Glass laboratory bottles made of the virtually inert DURAN® borosilicate glass 3.3 are perfect for storing sensitive substances and APIs. However when working with particularly valuable or potentially hazardous media, the use of the protect safety coated DURAN® laboratory bottles is highly recommended. The polymer coating of polyurethane (PU) offers additional protection for routine laboratory work. In the event of impact damage to the bottle, the tough external coating holds the glass pieces together so that the contents are generally retained, and the clean up effort is greatly reduced. The protect coated bottles provide added safety both for the user, and for the contents. The plastic coating is highly transparent so that the contents and printed volume graduations of the bottle are clearly visible.

Calibration made easy for vaporized H2O2 sensors
Calibration for the hydrogen peroxide measurement uses two different H2O2 vapor concentr The Peroxcap® sensor for vaporized hydrogen peroxide bases its measurement on two HUMICAP® sensors. To understand how Humicap sensors work, it is useful to know a little about thin-film polymer sensors. In this type of sensor, there is a thin layer of polymer between two electrodes. The film absorbs or releases vapor according to humidity changes in the environment. As the humidity changes, the dielectric properties and capacitance of the sensor changes. A dielectric is an insulator that impedes an electric charge; capacitance is the ability of conductive materials to respond to voltage changes. Essentially a thin film polymer sensor is measuring voltage changes that occur with the amount of water vapor in the environment. Electronics within the instrument use the capacitance of the sensor to give a humidity measurement. The Peroxcap sensor uses two Humicap sensors: one with and one without a catalytic layer. The catalytic layer breaks down the hydrogen peroxide

Granomat JP 150 disk mill Suitable for coarse, fine and finest
Granomat JP 150 disk mill
Suitable for coarse, fine and finest The Granomat JP 150 is a laboratory blender, based on the stator-rotor principle. The rotor as well as the stator consist of two ring-shaped disks. According to its designation, the stator is clamped and does not rotate, whereas the rotor rotates at an adjustable speed. The material to be ground is moved to the outside by centrifugal forces through the gap between the rotor and the stator and crushed. The Granomat JP 150 can be fitted with various milling disks with nominal diameter of 150 mm and different shaping suited for wet or dry milling. In this case, motors of 3.7 kW are used. For industrial production or when higher throughputs are requested the use of Granomate JP 250 and JP 360 with corresponding milling disk diameters of DN 250 or 360 is recommended. As a standard, motors of 22 kW are used. Higher motor powers and milling disk diameters can also be supplied on request. Most of the disk mills can be cooled and are provided with a coolant circuit connection. Wet

Enhanced integrity of catalyst characterization studies
In-situ Catalyst Characterization System transforms capabilities of existing test apparatu Norcross, GA, USA – 08 January 2020 Micromeritics Instrument Corp., a leader in material characterization technology, is seeing enthusiastic interest from researchers keen to use the new Micromeritics in-situ Catalyst Characterization System (ICCS) to enhance the integrity of heterogeneous catalyst studies by adding new capabilities to existing reaction screening systems. Standard practice is to remove a catalyst from the reactor and transfer it to a separate system for characterization a following a reaction, but this risks environmental contamination and compromising data quality. With the ICCS, a catalyst can be characterized at any point after a reaction, in the reactor, to gain representative data. The broad compatibility of the ICCS makes this extremely valuable insight into reaction, deactivation and regeneration widely accessible. “Researchers use a wide range of different apparatus to assess catalyst performance,” said Dr Simon Yunes, Senior Scientist, Micromeritics,
