MTM novel viral transport media successfully evaluated by PHE
Patented transport media manufactured by EKF Diagnostics can help to increase COVID-19 testing capacity EKF Diagnostics announces that the novel viral transport media PrimeStore® MTM (Molecular Transport Medium) has been successfully evaluated for effective SARS-CoV-2 inactivation in a new study published by Public Health England (PHE) [1]. To work safely with live SARS-CoV-2 samples requires the use of high-containment laboratories. However, after inactivation SARS-CoV-2 material can be handled at a lower containment level, allowing more laboratories to undertake testing and thereby increasing COVID-19 testing capacity. The PHE study [1] evaluated numerous commercially available reagents and laboratory formulations commonly used for viral inactivation protocols by public health agencies and research laboratories globally. All the reagents tested have been used during the current COVID-19 pandemic for sample transportation and subsequent molecular processing. A total of 23 commercial reagents designed for virus inactivation, clinical sample transportation and nucleic

Italy and India the only pharma economies to improve score
International partnering important Ahead of the CPhI Festival of Pharma (5-16 October, 2020) – global pharma’s largest ever virtual gathering – the CPhI Pharma Index[i] shows only Italy and India have improved their score in 2020, with the majority of industry executives looking for new supply chain partners. The Index – an aggregated confidence score across the five main small molecule categories in each of the largest economies – compiles the findings from more than 550 executives and sees an overall decrease of 0.86% in score across all nations for the first time. This is perhaps to be expected given the global impact that COVID-19 has had, but overall, the Index shows pharma to be in a strong position and globally, the industry has weathered the impact of the pandemic well. Many of the leading pharma economies have again scored strongly in ‘innovation’ and ‘pharmaceutical quality’ and the slight fall on 2019 results reflects reduced confidence in growth rather than quality. The major exception

Microglia Cells May Promote New Synapse Formation
Through Engulfing Extrace In order to create new memories, the brain cells must first find each other. Small protrusions from the ends of the neurons` long branched antennae connect these neurons together so that they can communicate. The ports where these cells communicate are called synapses, and trillions of synapses are found throughout the brain, which allows us to present new knowledge. However, scientists are still finding out how these connections respond to new experiences and information. In recent years, scientists have discovered that specialized immune cells in the brain, so-called microglia, can help remove unnecessary connections between neurons, possibly by engulfing synapses and breaking them down. Instead, new study found that microglia can also promote the formation of new synapses through the dense protein network between phagocytes, so that neurons can find each other. If scientists continue to study this new role of microglia, they may eventually find new therapeutic targets

Method for Determination of Drug Permeability
and Its Specific Application Recent advances in chemical synthesis, compound identification, and bioinformatics have multiplied new drug candidates, requiring decisions about molecular potency to be made quickly and accurately. The pharmaceutical industry uses a combination of high-throughput screening (HTS) technology based on the pharmacological activity and pharmacokinetic (PK) properties of a candidate drug. A few years ago, PK properties were the main cause of wastage in drug discovery and development. To overcome this problem, many HTS methods have emerged to optimize the screening phase and help select molecules with the best PK characteristics. These methods are cost-effective and efficient, preventing unnecessary expenditures. The main goal of the pharmaceutical industry is to generate promising molecules based on efficacy, adequate safety, and appropriate PK characteristics, thereby avoiding clinical trial failure. In addition to solubility, most drugs are administered orally, and permeability

Car-T Cell Therapy — The New Era in Cancer Immunotherapy
Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Over the years, many conventional cytotoxic methods for tumor diseases have been developed. However, because of their limited effectiveness based on the heterogeneity of cancer cells, scientists are always looking for treatments with improved results, such as immunotherapy that utilizes and enhances the normal ability of the patient`s immune system. Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy involves genetic modification of a patient`s own T cells to express a CAR specific for a tumor antigen, which is then expanded in vitro and returned to the patient. Currently, FDA-approved CAR T-cell therapy products are only used in adult B-cell non-Hodgkin`s lymphoma or childhood acute lymphocytic leukemia that have passed two unsuccessful standard treatments. But now clinical trials are beginning to evaluate CAR T-cell therapy as first-line or second-line treatment for adult lymphoma and childhood acute lymphoblastic

Progress of AAV Gene Therapy
Adeno-associated virus (AAV) is a small, non-enveloped virus that was adapted as a gene transfer vector 30 years ago. It is capable of transducing a variety of species and tissues in vivo without evidence of toxicity, and it produces a relatively mild innate and adaptive immune response. We will analyze the basic biology of AAV, the development history of AAV vector technology, and some clinical and research applications of AAV`s success, as well as the considerations mentioned by researchers. Adeno-associated virus belongs to the family Parvoviridae, is a non-enveloped single-stranded (positive or negative) linear DNA-deficient virus. It is the smallest virus among animal viruses. AAV cannot exist on its own. In the presence of helper viruses such as adenovirus and herpes simplex virus, AAV can replicate and synthesize assembly proteins in infected host cells to produce new virus particles. The main cell entry mechanism of AAV is endocytosis through the use of clathrin-coated

Gene Editing in Gene Therapy: Current Progress and Future Development Trend
Genome editing technologies, especially those based on zinc finger nucleases (ZFN), transcription activator-like effector nucleases (TALENs) and CRISPR/Cas9 are rapidly entering clinical trials. So far, most of the clinical applications of CRISPR have focused on in vitro editing of cells and then reintroducing them into patients. It is very effective for many diseases including cancer and sickle cell disease. But ideal genome editing will also be applied to the body that requires cell modification for diseases. However, the use of CRISPR technology in vivo can be confused by issues such as off-target editing, inefficient or off-target delivery, and stimulation of counterproductive immune responses. Current research on these issues may provide new opportunities for the use of CRISPR in the clinical field. The examination of clinical trial data shows that the number of registered trials using genome editors has increased rapidly, and the selected genome editor has changed

The Application Prospects of Crispr gene Editing
In a recent study, researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology`s Bode Institute and Harvard University programmed a CRISPR-related enzyme to target three different single-stranded RNA viruses in human embryonic kidney cells ( as well as human lung cancer cells and dog kidney cells) are grown in vitro and minced so that they are largely incapable of infecting other cells. If further experiments indicate that the process is effective for living animals, it may eventually help to identify new antiviral therapies for diseases such as human Ebola or Zika disease. CRISPR is a gene editing technology, a "molecular scissors" that allows scientists to "cut" and "paste" genes into DNA and perform gene editing faster and more accurately. Based on a targeted DNA destruction defense system originally discovered in certain prokaryotes, CRISPR has revolutionized medical science by introducing easy-to-use genome modification methods. Artificial Intelligence Is Revolutionizing the Biopharmaceutical Industry
Artificial Intelligence Is Revolutionizing the Biopharmaceutical Industry
Generally speaking, a successful new drug development would entail biopharmaceutical companies $500 million to $1 billion and 10 to 15 years in their drug R&D endeavors. However, though pharmaceutical companies have spent a large sum of money on research and development each year, more than 90% of the molecules discovered using traditional techniques turned out to be failure in human clinical trials. Against such a backdrop, the advent and growing popularity of artificial intelligence (AI) may soon become a major "savior" for maintaining commercial vitality in the pharmaceutical R&D field, and at the same time provide hope for some patients. Some leading AI drug development companies In this long and fierce competition, some companies have chosen different paths, hoping to challenge their limits in unknown areas. Companies focusing on AI-aided drug discovery needs to combine higher levels of traditional biopharmaceutical sciences (biochemistry, biology, biomedicine,

Application of Artificial Intelligence in SAR Analysis
Application of Artificial Intelligence in SAR Analysis
Statistics show that it usually takes a biopharmaceutical company $500 million to $1 billion and 10 to 15 years to successfully develop a new drug. The high risk, long cycle and high cost of new drug research and development are all big challenges for pharmaceutical companies. AI technology can help analyze the structure-activity analysis of compounds, which can, to some extent, ease the burden of researchers. Artificial intelligence for structure-activity analysis of compounds The structure-activity relationship of a drug refers to the relationship between the chemical activity of the drug and the drug effect. The earliest structure-activity relationship studies qualitatively inferred the relationship between the structure and activity of physiologically active substances in an intuitive way, and then inferred the structure of the active site of the target enzyme and designed new active substance structures. With the development of information technology, computer-assisted

ADCs Effectively Targets Surface Protein Of Neuroblastoma In Children
Physician-scientists in the Cancer Center at Children`s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) have developed a preclinical, potent therapy attached to an antibody that targets a surface protein expressed in most childhood neuroblastomas, effectively killing cancer cells. The researchers published their findings in Science Translational Medicine on Mar. 14, 2019. Antibody-drug conjugates or ADCs are a class of biopharmaceutical drugs designed as a targeted therapy for treating cancer. Unlike chemotherapy, ADCs are intended to target and kill tumor cells while sparing healthy cells. "If there is an ultimate `bad guy` of neuroblastoma cell surface proteins--present on most tumors, but not on healthy tissues, and also vulnerable to immunotherapeutic targeting--this just may be it," said study leader Yael Mossé, MD, a pediatric oncologist and researcher at Children`s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). "In 2008, we discovered mutations in the anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) gene

Do I need an Indigo transmitter or just an Indigo probe?
Vaisala Indigo family is a modular solution with interchangeable probes, smart transmitters&Indigo Insight. The Vaisala Indigo family is a modular solution with interchangeable probes, smart transmitters, and Indigo Insight PC software. There are many probe options to choose from measuring several parameters: humidity, temperature, dew point, carbon dioxide, moisture in oil, and vaporized hydrogen peroxide. The probes can be attached to three different transmitters: the Indigo 201, Indigo 202, and Indigo 520. But when is a probe sufficient on its own – and when do you need both a probe and a transmitter? Indigo-compatible smart probes are based on our well established technology and include everything required to perform measurements – the probes are actually already transmitters. The Indigo-probes have been designed to take users into consideration. Creative Diagnostics Releases Matched Antigen Pairs Creative Diagnostics Releases Matched Antigen Pairs to Advance Serology Test Development
Creative Diagnostics Releases Matched Antigen Pairs
Creative Diagnostics Releases Matched Antigen Pairs to Advance Serology Test Development Up to August 9, More than 19 million people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) globally, and at least 722,000 have died. In the U.S., nearly 5 million people have tested positive and more than 160,000 have died. Since the requirement for specific drugs and vaccines, as well as for effective diagnostic methods, is still urgent, Creative Diagnostics has released matched antigen pairs for serology test development, hoping to race the related research worldwide. Now, a number of false negative results have been reported, resulting in a failure to isolate infected patients. Since titers of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies can reflect the progress of viral infection, consistent clinical manifestations suggested that antibody could act as an indicator of the stage of COVID-19 progression. Creative Diagnostics now provides matched antigen pairs of SARS-CoV-2 Spike/RBD which are expressed in HEK293 cells, mainly covering the following products: ·Recombinant SARS-CoV-2
